Qualifications and selection criteria

  • Membership of the Association is company-, not employee-based, so is for all businesses (sole proprietors, partnerships, limited or public liability companies) which carry out electrical installation work, mainly by contract to third parties.

  • The business should have been undertaking electrical contracting work continuously for at least one year, and with a turnover above £30,000 per annum.

  • Joint membership of the Joint Industry Board (JIB) is preferred and will be strongly encouraged for all members, including compliance with the JIB National Working Rules. The cost of JIB membership is included within the ECA membership subscription.

  • The member's work should be in compliance with the relevant standards and codes of practice.

  • The member should support and comply with the ECA's Code of Fair Trading.

  • The member should meet the qualification standards determined by the ECA from time to time, including its Periodic Technical Assessment Scheme.

  • Membership is conditional upon the member's acceptance and compliance with the current edition of the ECA's Rules, Standing Orders and Bye-laws and disciplinary procedures.

  • The member should endeavour to play an active role in the ECA's affairs including regular attendance at branch meetings.
