Why join the ECA?
For over 100 years, the ECA has assisted and supported electrical contractors in providing a range of services to their clients. In essence the Association's objectives are to promote:
- the safety and uniformity of electrical installation work to relevant standards, including Part P of the Building Regulations
- the qualification and reward of its practitioners
- the encouragement of beneficial new technologies
- the achievement of an equitable commercial return for work done.
To meet these objectives the ECA seeks to improve the market environment in which contractors work and to provide relevant advisory and benefit services.
In relating to this prospect the ECA has recognised the benefit of extending its consultative and advisory membership base to involve clients, designers, users, installers, manufacturers and distributors.
The ECA sees this process as complementary to the representation services which these interests may presently enjoy through their own specialist trade bodies and learned institutions. The ECA's membership arrangements have been ordered accordingly.
Electrical contractors make electrical and electronic technologies work — from domestic installations through to complex control and distribution systems in industry and commerce. This includes the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of such installations as power, lighting, data communications, fire and security alarms, environmental and process control, high voltage and so on.
