ECA health and safety

On this site's health and safety pages you will find information to help companies reduce risks to health and safety, and realise the business benefits of effective health and safety management.

The site's information is designed primarily for small, medium and micro-sized companies operating in the electrical contracting sector. However the information may be of assistance to companies of all sizes. The content of all the sections will be developed and expanded during the coming months.

The health and safety web pages comprise a number of sections, as detailed below.

Zero Accident Potential (ZAP) initiative

‘ZAP’ is the Electrical Contracting industry’s major initiative to:

  • help companies improve health and safety performance
  • set industry and company targets for improvement
  • monitor and report on the industry’s health and safety performance.

The ZAP section focuses on key industry hazards such as asbestos and falls from height. It also presents the industry’s annual accident statistics.

Legislation

Our health and safety legislation section outlines the requirements of some of the most important health and safety law for electrical contractors. The first guides cover the HSW Act and the ‘management of health and safety at work’ regulations.

This section provides briefings on key health and safety management issues. The first briefing looks at the health and safety responsibilities of directors. Some future topics will be of interest mainly to larger companies, such as the introduction of health and safety management systems.

For free, confidential health and safety advice and information,  ECA members can call our member’s advice line. Note that HSE also runs a confidential, free ‘Infoline’ advice line 08701 545500, or fax on 02920 859260

Health and safety courses

This section will advise you about the range of health and safety courses available from the ECA, including onsite courses.
