Mainstream Guidance

MAINSTREAM TECHNICAL SERVICES OR 'POWER' SERVICES

We provide a comprehensive expert advice service to members. This includes expert and definitive oral and written advice and electro-contractural dispute resolution, across the mainstream areas in which members work.

We also initiate, where resources allow, innovation and engineering initiatives and schemes for the benefit of members.

KEY ACTIVITIES

STANDARDISATION

Includes BS7671, BS7430, other core standards, CENEVEL and IEC Standardisation. Our principle is to endeavour to make standards more simple, more practical and less bureaucratic.

Snapshot! Recently we have pushed for BSI to draft a new standard on manufacturing and installation of pre-fabricated wiring systems. This work has just started and ECA are leading the way on this work.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

All too often, many, if not all other organisations make technical requirements which are either not required, not part of regulations or standards and to put it crudely, 'over the top'.

We offer sound expert advice in many key areas with real solutions. These are often purely technical, but sometimes have a contractural element also.

All advice can be backed by sound expert knowledge of some leading UK experts and written advice is often provided.

Often we have been successful in brokering complicated disputes, saving members tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds.

INDUSTRY TECHNICAL LIAISON

We provide on behalf of members, a vital interface with the electrical industry and we are in daily contact with the industry including the IEE, CIBSE, IIE, BSRIA, GAMICA, LIF, SELECT and similar organisations.

CODES AND LEGISLATION

We continually provide input to other codes such as the Building Regulation of the CIBSE Lighting code, together with providing members with technical guidance on this.
