Mainstream technical services or 'power' services

The ECA provides an expert comprehensive technical advice service to members. This includes definitive oral and written advice as well as electro-contractual dispute resolution advice across the mainstream areas in which members work.

We also initiate, where resources allow, innovation and engineering initiatives and schemes for the benefit of members.

Key activities:

Standardisation and representation

This includes BS 7671, BS 7430 and other core standards including CENELEC and IEC standardisation. Our principle aim is to endeavour to make standards simpler, more practical and less bureaucratic (we are usually in a minority here!).

Technical support

All too often, many other organisations make technical requirements which are either not required, not part of regulations or standards and are, to put it bluntly, 'over the top'.

We offer sound expert advice in many key areas with real solutions. Whilst often purely technical, these solutions sometimes have a contractual element as well, and we have been successful on numerous occasions in brokering complicated disputes, saving members tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of pounds.  All advice can be backed by the sound expert knowledge of leading UK experts and written advice is provided upon request.

Industry technical liaison

We provide, on behalf of our members, a vital interface with the electrical industry and we are in almost daily contact with the industry including the IEE, CIBSE, IEE, BRE, BSRIA, GAMBICA, LIF, SELECT and similar organisations.

Codes and legislation

We continually provide input to other codes, such as the Building Regulations of the CIBSE Lighting Code, as well as providing members with technical guidance on these.
