Requirements for Electrical Installations - BS 7671

The Association has put considerable effort and resources into the subject of BS 7671 the Requirements for Electrical Installations, the key technical standard for members and the whole electrical installation industry.

We actively participate in the National British Standard Committee, which prepares this document and in 2005 the ECA took chairmanship of a sub-panel of this committee (a first for the Association). Co-ordination of this is via the Association’s Technical Power Committee.

Associated with this standardisation is the equivalent work within the IEC and CENELEC; ECA staff and Members represent contractors in these forums.

It is a continual problem to get real and practical solutions into BS 7671 document and the international equivalents which  is the key focus and ethos of the ECA approach.

As well as the important representation of this standardisation work, the Association has considerable expertise in this area. We regularly help members find solutions to technical and electro-contractual problems, resolve design issues and engage with dispute resolutions.

The Association has produced considerable guidance on aspects of BS 7671 and have participated in drafting the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Guidance notes 1 to 7 (these are recommended by the Association).
