Information Technology Electronics and Controls (ITEC)

ITEC systems engineers are at the forefront of new technology and are helping to enhance and advance modern day life in areas such as healthcare, transportation, leisure and agriculture. Whether designing or specifying, installation or maintenance, their knowledge and skills often provide the essential link between the user and the manufacturer of control systems products.

Keeping members informed

The ECA's established ITEC Group ensures that ECA members and their engineers are kept up-to-date on all new developments in the areas of communications, industrial control and automation, drive technology, data networks, telecommunications, fibre optics, building management systems and home and building electronics systems.

Through its Technical Committee, it pursues initiatives and monitors standards in support of the membership. Members are kept informed through regular circulars, workshops and organised visits to view areas of special interest.

The wide-ranging scope enables companies, whether specialist or diverse in nature, to take advantage of the benefits the Association has to offer.

Benefits of membership

Members of the ITEC Group have available to them a full range of ECA benefits. They are, as a result, able to supply the client with a value-added service.

The benefits include:

  • the underwriting of members' work, both in terms of quality and completion of the contract
  • the warranty scheme – this guarantees that the work will comply with all relevant standards and statutory requirements for a period of five years after the initial maintenance period
  • Installation Inspection Services – during the maintenance period, a member's clients are entitled to a free installation inspection (subject to the conditions of the scheme), should they feel that the above criteria has not been met
  • a wide range of ECA insurance services
  • access to the ECA Manual – the ECA Manual provides comprehensive information on technical, commercial, legal and industrial relation issues. These are regularly updated to reflect the latest developments and are backed up by a telephone helpline service.

Promotion, information and influence

Finally, all members are included in both the main comprehensive Register of Members and a specific ITEC section, which is targeted at clients involved in the specialist areas of communications and control systems work. Both sections promote members and their services and the publication is available to clients and specifiers. In addition, there is an ITEC section on the main ECA website providing information to members, their customers and the general public on ITEC activities.

ECA ITEC's main objective is to influence the content of the Standards for the benefit of ECA members and the industry as a whole. It aims to be the conduit for service provision to ITEC companies in areas such as the production of installation certification and technical advice.
