ECA ITEC – aims and objectives

The ECA's established Information Technology Electronics and Controls (ITEC) Group ensures that ECA members and their engineers are kept up-to-date on all new developments in the areas of communications, industrial control and automation, drive technology, data networks, telecommunications, fibre optics, building management systems and home and building electronics systems.

The aims and objectives of ECA ITEC are:

  1. To protect and promote the communication and control systems engineering industry
  2. To work with learned societies and other trade associations to help provide the best practice in industry and education.

These aims and objectives are accommodated within the Association's present resource and capability in representing the interests of both the electrical installation and communication and control systems engineering industries to government and other policy-making bodies.

Methods of achievement

In order to achieve these aims and objectives, the following methods have been adopted.

  • Using national media and industry magazines to promote both member and client benefits, highlighting the sector specific attributes
  • Identifying projects for the ITEC Committee that may be used commercially for its overall advantage and identifying issues of concern to members that may lead to similar advantage
  • Monitoring without bias existing members' activities to see if there are identifiable links to membership benefits which could be used in promotional activities
  • Broadcasting any achievements made and identifying such achievements with an ITEC mark of quality
  • Reviewing and advising on the criteria for membership of the whole ITEC sector
  • Developing a proactive campaign to identify and promote suitable companies to clients, specifiers and outside bodies
  • Informing members of emerging technologies so that they are able to take maximum advantage
  • Ensuring training is available for members so qualification and recognition can be achieved in good time
  • Promoting the industry to existing members, particularly at branch level, so they are able to diversify their businesses as markets develop.
