ECA ITEC entry qualifications
Conditions of membership
- This category of membership shall apply where more than 50% of the company's business is outside the scope of the current Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). The business should have been trading continuously for a minimum of three years.
- Joint membership of the JIB will not be a condition of ECA ITEC. However, should the member elect to concurrently join the JIB and fully participate in its combined benefits credit scheme, then its benefits would be available to the member.
- An ECA ITEC member's work should be in compliance with the relevant standards and Codes of Practice.
- An ECA ITEC member should support and comply with the ECA's Code of Fair Trading.
- An ECA ITEC member should meet the qualification standards determined by the ECA from time to time, including its Periodic Technical Assessment Scheme.
- Membership is conditional upon the ECA ITEC member's acceptance and compliance with the current edition of the ECA Rules, Standing Orders, Bylaws and Disciplinary Procedures.
- An ECA ITEC member is entitled to feature the ECA logotype and the title relevant to its stationery, literature, site boards and transport wherever practicable.
- An ECA ITEC member should endeavour to play an active role in the ECA's affairs including attendance at Branch meetings.
Entitlements
ECA ITEC members shall have access to the benefits and services as outlined below or determined by the ECA Council from time to time.
- Representation of members' interests to government and other authoritative bodies.
- Promotion of members' qualifications to clients through the distribution of the Association's annual Register, internet site entry, other promotional work and representation.
- Insurance Certificate providing cover to the members' customers through the Association's Warranty and Bond Schemes.
- A comprehensive Manual, with regular updates and mailings, covering relevant technical, commercial, contractual and legal, training and personnel matters.
- Advice from professional head office staff on individual members' own commercial, contractual and legal, training and technical problems, and support from the local ECA regional offices.
- An advisory telephone hotline and newsletter on relevant safety matters.
- Concessionary terms for comprehensive Risk Assessment and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health manual, to guide members on their present obligations.
- Automatic membership of local ECA branches with regular meetings and social events.
- Members' representation by election on the Association's Regional Executive Committees, Governing Council and Standing Committees.
- Assistance to achieve quality assurance accreditation through BS EN ISO 9000.
- Access to the Association's own temporary labour employment agency, insurance company and support for craft training from its training agency.
- Preferential Terms for Business training courses run by the ECA.
- Access for members' employees to a contributory benefit scheme which provides cover for sick pay, life insurance, medical insurance and holiday pay.
- An independent Inspection on Demand survey carried out at the request of either the member company or its client.
- A range of technical certificates complying with relevant national standards and regulations providing members and clients with a formal record of the installation.
- Installation record manuals setting out the documentation for the handover of a job and record of its completion.
- Subscription to the Electrical and Mechanical Contractor journal.
- A range of promotional material to assist members' business development.
- BUPA cover for the nominated representative of each member company.
- Access to the ECA's Debt Recovery Service.
