Telecomms and datacomms installations

The ECA has been involved in datacomms since shortly after its formation in 1901 and although the industry has changed quite substantially, over 1000+ of our member companies are still involved either completely or to some extent or another, in datacomms.

In recent years, the ECA, through its ITEC Committee, has lead the industry in developing job descriptions for datacomms operatives, operative registration in conjunction with the JIB supplementing the JIB's existing telecomms operatives grades, development of British and European standards, developing UK and European company qualifications, developing UK and European educational qualifications, developing UK and European vocational qualifications, developing short form training courses and professional recognition for datacomms operatives with the learned institutions. Wherever you look around the globe, you are almost sure to find an ECA member company active in that region of the world.

Over the course of the next few years, ECA ITEC is planning to enhance the ECA manual substantially, giving member companies a first class tool kit to help them and their employees deal with matters arising in the world of datacomms. Also, to help our member companies and the industry at large, ECA ITEC is producing a series of 'ITEC Guides to Datacomms', some of which will be on the ECA's public website and some of which will be available on the ECA's members-only website. So if you are not an ECA member already please do join us and enjoy the many benefits of ECA membership.

ECA ITEC is also arranging technical seminars throughout the UK in the ECA's 10 regional offices and conferencing centres, during which the full range of ITEC guides will be available for attendees to take away or discuss. Information will be available on ECS datacomms cards, datacomms assessment, Qualif'com registration and how these may improve your business. Details of regional seminars are available from your regional ECA team and are run at the regional team's request.

We work with many industry partners and if you are involved in the datacomms industry and feel that you or your company can help us enhance our range of guides, please do not hesitate to contact  David Stefanowicz on 0207 313 4827.
