Market data for companies in the South East

The ECA Business Trends Survey is undertaken quarterly with ECA members. It tracks business performance in the latest quarter, as well as expectations for both the next quarter and the next 12 months, and looks at turnover and orders received/expected,

The South East comprises the ECA regions of South East and Central South.

  • The balance reporting an increase in turnover was down to zero in Q2 2007. There was a substantial increase in the next two quarters but it is now back down to below zero.
  • The balance expecting an increase in turnover in the next quarter has been constant at about 10% in recent surveys.  In the latest survey this has fallen dramatically to -10%.
  • In Q1 2008 the level of enquiries reported in the South East has fallen substantially.
  • For the last two years expectations for the next 12 months had been consistent.  This consistency has now disappeared with the balance dropping from 20% to -10% in the present survey.
  • There is particular concern among some in this area about a slow down in the number of enquiries and there are now few who comment on any increase in enquiries.

Companies in the South East: actual turnover change in the last quarter and actual and expected turnover change – balance*.

*Balance: for each question on the survey, respondents were asked whether values would be more, less or the same as in previous periods. The difference between more or less is referred to as the balance.
