Advantages
Your Employees Are Your Most Valuable Asset
Taking care of your employee's health and providing them with a level of security will maximise employee attendance and performance.
Employees will in turn value and appreciate employers' commitment to their welfare.
Included in the weekly combined benefit credit is an insurance element to cover operatives with the benefits as required by JIB terms and conditions. This weekly credit offers a simplified way for employers to provide a differing range of benefits.
The suite of employee benefits for operatives is as follows:
Holiday Pay
- Holiday pay rates are based upon job employed (own transport) rates for all JIB grades.
- Variable options have been introduced to promote a more flexible process for purchasing holiday pay.
- Top-up arrangements are available to accrue holiday pay in accordance with Working Time Regulations.
- The holiday pay scheme operates on a four weekly basis and reimbursement of holidays at specified times.
- Employers may use a standing order facility and therefore only need to notify the ECIBA when there are changes to their workforce.
- Savings of around £300 per person per annum can be achieved.
- Holiday pay scheme can be extended to include all staff members.
Private Medical Treatment
- Covered under a BUPA Premier Network Scheme.
- No prior medical history required.
- Options available for dependants to be covered under the scheme.
Health Screening
- The JIB issue invitations at regular intervals to eligible JIB operatives to attend a health assessment.
- The assessments, which are entirely voluntary, take place at BUPA Health screening Centres
Sick Pay
- Provides sick pay for 26 weeks (after 2 waiting weeks) at rates according to grades. This provides a maximum payment of £3,300 (dependant upon grade) in any one year.
- After the period of sickness benefit of 28 weeks, operatives who are still unfit for work can opt for a total disability waiver. This allows, without additional premium, for a future claim for either permanent and total disability benefit or death benefit, providing disability occurs prior to age 65 and proof of total disability is provided as required. Eligibility terminates at normal retirement age.
Death Benefit Cover
- Standard death benefit of £17,000 from any cause.
Accidental Death Benefit Cover
- In the event of death occurring as a result of an accident at work an extra £50,000 is paid, in addition to the standard death benefit of £17,000 with effect from January 2005. This could increase the total benefit to £67,000. Any accidental death when travelling to and from work will attract an additional £12,500 to the standard death benefit of £17,000.
Permanent and Total Disability
- If, due to injury or disease, an operative loses a limb or total use of a limb, (or sustains permanent and total loss of vision), and is unable to work in the future in his/her JIB Grade, a payment of £15,000 will be made.
- Where an operative suffers some other serious illness or injury, and as a result is unable to ever work in the future in his JIB grade, then a discretionary benefit may be payable.
- Any payment of a permanent and total disability payment will be made in lieu of any other benefit from the group life plan.
Registered Apprentices Benefits
The following benefits are provided at no additional cost for apprentices registered with the JIB if their employer is a member of the ECA and/or the JIB and credits are being bought for operatives.
- Permanent & Total Disability - same rules apply as to operatives (see above), but with a payment of £7,500.
- Death Benefit - Standard death benefit from any cause is £7,500.
- Accidental Death Benefit - In the event of the death occurring as a result of an accident at work, an extra £17,500 is paid, in addition to the standard death benefit of £7,500 with effect from January 2005. This could increase the total benefit to £25,000. Any accidental death when travelling to and from work will attract an additional £6,250.
Purchase of JIB benefits provides free cover for death and accidental death for JIB registered apprentices employed.
There are also options available for employers whose operative's work on large (nominated) sites to provide revised levels of benefit by way of top-up to the JIB scheme.
