Aims and visions

The ECA — who we are

Founded in 1901, the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) is the UK’s largest trade association representing the electrical installation and building services industries.

Mission Statement

To be the membership organisation that quality electrical/engineering and related building services companies join for commercial benefit and to improve the industry.

Our members

There are over 2,700 member companies in the ECA, ranging from local employers to national multi-service organisations. Members employ over 30,000 people and support over 8,000 apprentices with their training. ECA members dominate these sectors with a collective annual turnover approaching £5 billion. From fibre optics to factories, the ECA represents the best in all sectors of the industry.

The ECA Standard

All ECA members have at least one year's experience of electrical contracting and have undergone rigorous inspection of their work and business procedures to ensure technical competence and business ability. All members' installation work must comply with the latest wiring Regulations laid down by the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), or other relevant British standards and the ECA Code of Fair Trading.

What we do

The ECA assists and encourages its members to provide high quality, good value and safe electrical installation and is dedicated to maintaining and improving industry standards by discussion and representation.

Subsidiary ECA companies

The ECA has a number of subsidiary companies in such areas as insurance, property management, quality assurance and training to support and assist its members' activities and interests.
