The ECA works hard on behalf of Registered Members to develop and deliver a focused lobbying agenda. We work to ensure the survival and progression of our industry, while enhancing the business landscape in which members operate.
Centred primarily on the key areas of skills and training; sustainability; and pre-qualification, ECA proposals have proved to be timely, resonating with both Government and Civil Servants, while enjoying cross-party support at the highest levels.
Skills and Training
- In recent years, the number of apprentices taken on in the electrical industry has plummeted
- With an ageing workforce, the industry will need to take on 5,000 new apprentices per year to ensure its survival
- The ECA has been lobbying on Registered Members' behalf to make the process of employing and training apprentices more appealing and less of a financial burden to employers
Prequalification
- The ECA has been lobbying for mutual recognition between pre-qualification schemes. This will reduce the costly and burdensome need for ECA Registered Members to register on multiple ‘approved to work’ lists in order to tender for work with a range of organisations
Sustainability
- Reducing energy use in existing buildings has a key part to play in reducing energy use and reliance on fossil fuels, and in limiting carbon emissions
- Our Registered Members have the expertise to reduce this energy use, and we are working to make sure that Government understands this as it begins the process of strengthening environmental regulations
- Expertise in this area will enhance the business landscape for ECA Registered Members as environmental regulations, such as Part L of the Building Regulations, are strengthened
