Technical Standards/ Regulations
The ECA plays a vital role in setting the standards which the industry adheres to at an international, European and national level. Our experts participate in a variety of industry task forces to ensure that new and amended standards and legislation reflect innovations in technology and practice and that they are not an unnecessary burden on contractors.
Electrical safety in private rented housing
The ECA is working closely with Electrical Safety First to seek to protect the safety of those tenants living in the private rented sector, by pressing for the introduction of mandatory, regular electrical safety checks. With the government having introduced an amendment to deliver this, we will continue to work with the Department for Communities and Local Government to ensure the detail of the policy change meets the intended objectives.
Standards in the data centre industry
Many ECA members operate within the growing data centre industry. There are concerns among leading players within the sector of a lack of UK industry standards, with many firms now looking abroad to countries such as the USA for qualifications and guidance. As a result, the ECA is working with industry partners to develop a plan for introducing a standards and training regime for the sector. This work began with a roundtable in early 2016.
