The ECA is delighted to announce that Ken Livingstone, the former first Mayor of London and current Labour mayoral candidate, will be guest speaker at the 2012 Annual Dinner on Wednesday 15 February at Grosvenor House.
An outspoken and engaging public figure, Ken's political career began with election to Lambeth Borough Council. He soon rose through local government ranks to become Leader of the GLC, acquiring considerable notoriety before the institution was abolished by Margaret Thatcher. He then served as MP for Brent East.
When he failed to secure Labour's nomination in the first mayoral election, Ken stood as an independent candidate and trounced both Frank Dobson and Steve Norris. He was eventually welcomed back into the Labour fold, and went on to fight and win a second four-year term.
Since leaving the London Assembly in 2008, Ken has written his memoirs and hosts a phone-in show on LBC 97.3. He has also maintained links with the many charities, pressure groups and local organisations he has supported for many years.
The ECA Annual Dinner is a focal point of the electrical industry's calendar, attracting over 1,000 guests who are representative of all sectors of the electrical and construction industries, including government departments, manufacturers, wholesalers, kindred trade and professional associations and institutions.
