Members are informed of a new consultation entitled ‘Building Regulations Competent Person Self-Certification Schemes’, looking to increase compliance, which was released by DCLG on 23rd December 2009
Key points to note are:
- Building Regulations Minister, Lord McKenzie, announced proposals to give the public easier redress by making available approved schemes' details, and how quickly they will deal with complaints, as well as allowing the public to search online for a suitable local contractor who is qualified to carry out the specific work needed.
- Consumers would also have upfront information on all competent person schemes' websites about how their complaints procedures work and how long a complaint will take to process.
Should members wish to comment on this, they are required to read the consultation paper on the DCLG website and complete the Response Form (Annex E).
The completed Response Form should be sent to Nancy Satariano by email by no later than close of play 12th March 2010. Members’ responses will then be collated and forwarded on to the DCLG for consideration.
