The national Wiring Regulations committee, JPEL/64, has agreed the publication of Amendment 1, which will consist of a stand-alone update to Section 722: Electric Vehicle Charging Installations.
The amendment will only form part of a consolidated new Regulations following the next major amendment to BS 7671, expected in 2022.
ECA welcomes this announcement. Technology has rapidly advanced since the publication of BS 7671:2018 in 2018. This amendment permits these advances to filter through into the regulations, thereby allowing practical, safe installations to be installed at a reduced cost to the installer and the end client.
ECA looks forward to the amendment, which should help to remove ambiguities surrounding the installation of EV charge points and increase the rapid deployment required to support the ever-growing market of EVs and help us achieve our national commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
ECA works closely with the IET and BSI and are active members of the JPEL committees involved in the creation of the wiring regulations.
