ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessments

To book an assessment through the ECA please call the ECA Administration team on 01582 531 047.

To hold an ECS Card, you must pass the ECS Health, Safety & Environmental assessment (or have valid exemption). The ECS Health, Safety & Environmental assessment is specifically designed to meet the basic Health & Safety requirements of electrotechnical personnel.

Those who successfully pass the ECS assessment will be awarded with an ECS H&S Certificate, issued by the JIB or SJIB, which can be used to obtain an ECS card within two years of passing the assessment.

ECA is authorised to provide ECS Health, Safety & Environmental assessments throughout England, Wales & Northern Ireland. Reciprocal arrangements apply in Scotland.

ECA provides this service on behalf of the JIB and all health and safety assessments booked though ECA can be paid for by credit or debit card and will appear on your statement as 'ECA online banking'.

The majority of UK construction sites will require onsite workers and site visitors to have achieved an appropriate level of health and safety knowledge before they are permitted to enter construction areas. Due to this requirement, the ECS card scheme requires all those applying for cards to hold or obtain a minimum level of health and safety knowledge.

The ECS H&S assessment is required by all candidates applying for an ECS card who do not have an exemption to the test. A list of the exemptions is available on this page.

If you are unsure about your eligibility for an ECS card and which H&S assessment you should undertake, please visit the ECS card website, No responsibility can be accepted for candidates who book and undertake the wrong test and no refund will be given in such circumstances.
