Feed-in tariffs
Feed-in tariffs (FITs) were introduced in April 2010. They are a Government scheme that allows payments to be made from the energy provider to domestic householders who install, and connect to the national grid, microgeneration technologies which are under a 5MW capacity including the following technologies;
• Wind
• Solar Photovoltaic (PV)
• Hydro
• CHP
The tariffs provide an opportunity to ECA members who can demonstrate a knowledge and expertise in the supply and installation of these micro renewable energy sources. Particularly as members who work in the domestic sector have regular contact with potentially interested householders, you are well positioned to take advantage of this domestic market.
FITs are continually decreasing. For the absolute latest information, please ensure you visit the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) or the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) website. There are currently deployment caps on tariffs and there may be a wait to get on to the scheme.
