Health & Safety

Through active engagement with the HSE, the supply chain and influential safety charities such as RoSPA, ECA helps to ensure that health and safety legislation and guidance are fit for purpose in the building engineering services sector. ECA also publicises the excellent overall health and safety performance of its members.

Instrumental in the development of PAS 91 and SSIP, ECA has also driven significant improvements in pre-qualification, to increase cross-recognition and avoid costly and burdensome duplication, as a result of multiple pre-qualification questionnaires.

Improving occupational health

The ECA is a member of the Construction Dust Partnership (CDP), which aims to tackle serious lung disease in construction. More information can be found at: http://www.citb.co.uk/health-safety-and-other-topics/health-safety/construction-dust-partnership/.

Improving safety

Recent safety statistics from the Joint Industry Board (JIB) and the ECA show that the RIDDOR-reportable accident rate has dropped substantially since 2001. The rate of accidents has halved since 2010. The ECA works with members to ensure that our sector remains a low-risk sector in the construction and wider maintenance industry.

Excessive H&S requirements

Health and safety is vitally important in our sector but occasionally, some third party requirements are excessive or just unnecessary.  Any ECA member encountering excessive or unfair health and safety requirements should complete the following forms, as appropriate:
