Wiring Regulations Survey Results (2017)

The IET Wiring Regulations – otherwise known as BS 7671 – are currently under full review, with a series of substantial changes planned within the new 18th edition.

Earlier this year, the proposals were put out to public consultation, which closed on 23rd August.  The ECA recently responded to this IET / BSI consultation, on behalf of the industry.

As part of the ECA’s submission to the IET and BSI, we surveyed 533 electrotechnical businesses from across the industry during June and July 2017, to understand their views.  This included many members of trade associations and professional bodies, as well as dozens of registrants of certification bodies.

The industry ‘JPEL 64’ committee, of which the ECA is a member, will now consider the feedback received, before the end of 2017.  The final 18th edition will be published in June 2018, before coming into force in January 2019.

The results of the ECA survey are as below.  For more information on the ECA’s #Project18 Wiring Regulations campaign, please visit www.eca.co.uk/project18.
