SLL LightBytes 2018-19
Following the success of the previous series, the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) is delighted to announce the return of its LightBytes series.
Having reformatted the SLL masterclasses, each LightBytes event will be a day of peer reviewed, bite sized presentations, focusing on key issues relating to lighting professionals and those within related industries.
This year’s series will be looking at the following topics:
- How to Specify a Luminaire
The speakers will discuss light sources, optics, electronics and the construction of luminaires, highlight the information that should be provided by the manufacturer, and outline the right questions to ask when specifying a luminaire.
Speakers will discuss what needs to be considered within a retrofit project. This will include outlining obligations in terms of safety tests along with work which, although not obligatory, would still be considered best practice. There will also be case studies relating to the retrofit of historic buildings and the introduction of mesh networks.
This section will be look at the journey through a building and providing emergency lighting beyond the exit door and to a place of safety. Speakers will reference 'HM Government Fire Risk Assessment Guidance' and discuss requirements for emergency lighting depending on the space considered and whether it is within the public or private realm.
The final session of the day will touch upon the use of smart lighting for predictive or pro-active maintenance. There will be examples of domestic and commercial applications of smart lighting, along with an overview of the types of data that can be collected and how this could be utilised for building performance. This session will also look towards the future and the potential impact of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The presentations are new and peer reviewed, providing you with the opportunity to add 4.5 hours to your CPD.
