Presence aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and installers
18 September 2017
The engineers and installers of tomorrow are being urged to attend this year’s Skills Cymru event in Cardiff in October, during which numerous opportunities in the electrotechnical and engineering services sector will be showcased by leading trade association the ECA and its industry partners.
The ECA's 'Get Skilled' stand will give young people a valuable insight into what it’s like to work in the modern electrotechnical and engineering services sector. Apprentices from the industry will also attend, to discuss their experiences.
The 'Get Skilled' stand will be highly interactive - providing activities, demonstrations and competitions for visitors, allowing them to see the skills that are used in the industry. JTL, SWA, Edmundson Electrical, Smarta Construction & Technology, Fluke, Aico and SGD Security will be providing the activities.
These activities will include: wiring up the latest switches and sockets, and thermal imaging. There will also be demonstrations on how to install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and on interactive home automation systems that use the latest smart technologies.
ECA South Wales Regional Manager Michelle Davies commented:
“The ECA is really pleased to be involved in this leading careers event, which provides an important step for young people in Wales seeking a career within the electrotechnical and engineering services sector.
“We are grateful to our industry partners, who will be delivering stimulating interactive demonstrations, allowing attendees to gain a hands-on experience of the real tasks undertaken by professionals working within the industry.”
Skills Cymru is a major careers and skills event for Wales, attracting up to 10,000 people annually. This years’ event will take place on 4-5 October in Llandudno and 11-12 October in Cardiff. The ECA has a presence during the Cardiff event.
