TESP calls on industry to inspire next generation
22 January 2020
The Electrotechnical Skills Partnership (TESP) has launched a campaign calling upon the electrotechnical and engineering services industry to share knowledge and insights from roles across the sector, with the aim of inspiring young people to consider a career in the industry.
Under the launch banner of ‘Light Up Their Imaginations’, the campaign will feature a series of messages aimed at electricians and electrical contracting firms, to encourage them to get on board with a wide choice of activity to promote electrical careers through face-to-face involvement with schools and colleges.
A survey commissioned by ECA JIB, and JTL in 2018 showed that a quarter (25 per cent) of people aged 18 to 24 think low pay levels are a barrier to a career in the electrotechnical and plumbing industries. 27 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds also perceive a lack of opportunities for career progression.
