ECA and partners back domestic energy performance bill

02 July 2020

ECA has backed the Domestic Premises (Minimum Energy Performance) Bill, which would require the Secretary of State to ensure that domestic properties have a minimum energy performance rating of C on an Energy Performance Certificate.

The Bill, led by the Sustainable Energy Association, was introduced by Sir David Amess MP before the last election in the House of Commons and after the election into the House of Lords by Lord Foster. The Bill had its second reading in February and will now be progressed to Committee Stage in the House of Lords by Lord Foster.

The Bill will compel the Government to develop a more detailed plan of action to bring all fuel-poor homes to EPC Band C by 2030, and all those not classified as fuel poor by 2035; it will also require the Minister to maximise the adoption of existing, new and innovative technologies and to consider how best they can be utilised to realise the Bill’s aims.
