JIB clarifies effect of pay freeze in January 2021

06 October 2020

On 28 September, the JIB issued a joint statement agreed between ECA and Unite the Union, recording ECA’s position that it was not in a position to agree any increases to JIB rates and allowances for 2021, with the exception of Lodging Allowance.

More recently, on 5 October, the JIB issued a further notice, clarifying that in these circumstances ‘existing terms and conditions of the JIB Agreement will continue to apply’. The JIB notice further confirms that: ‘Under the JIB’s National Rules, six months’ notice will be provided by the JIB prior to the implementation of any substantive changes’.

Unite the Union’s stated position is that it does not accept a pay freeze and is currently consulting union members about the situation.

Details of the increase to Lodging Allowance taking effect in January 2021 may be found here.
