NET app scoops Electrical Industry Award

The recently launched Inspection & Testing App from National Electrotechnical Training (NET) has been crowned winner of the 2021 Electrical Industry Awards ‘Innovative Website or App’ category.

Presented in a virtual ceremony hosted by meteorologist and BBC weather presenter Sarah Keith-Lucas, the award was given to NET after judges were impressed by its innovation, usability, practical functionality and benefit to the sector.

Developed in conjunction with renowned industry figure Sparky Ninja, the app is a revision tool that allows people to try out five key tests they’ll encounter in their AM2 assessment: Continuity of Protective Conductors, Continuity of Ring Final Circuit Conductors, Insulation Resistance, Earth Fault Loop Impedance and Prospective Fault Current.

Historically there have been many instructional videos that show the I&T process but none, until now, that allow users to practise the testing steps themselves. This is the first app of its kind that gives a video walk-through of each test and then lets the user get ‘hands-on’. NET has pioneered this unique approach and launched it, free of charge, for the benefit of the industry. It follows hot on the heels of the ‘Amped Up’ app launched earlier in the year by NET, which allows users to practise the safe isolation process in a fun game format.

Carolyn Mason, chief executive of NET, added: “We’re delighted to have won and that the app is being recognised as an innovative and useful revision tool for those taking AM2. Our aim is to help candidates prepare as best as possible before they attend the assessment – this app is just one tool in NET’s suite of resources to help them do that, and we’re delighted that it’s been well received.”
