Northern Ireland

Welcome to ECA's Northern Ireland Region

The Northern Ireland Region has a population of 1.8 million and has Members representative of all sections of the electrical contracting industry.

The membership is responsible for circa 70% of Public Sector spend in Northern Ireland.

Regional Manager Alfie Watterson represents the interests of Members on various local Industry bodies such as:

  • Northern Ireland Industry Group (NICG) – Representative group for all sectors of the Construction Industry.
  • Build Environment Sector Partnership (BESP) – Group for Construction Industry including Colleges for interface with Local Government who use the group to facilitate consultation with Industry on issues including training.
  • All Party Working Group on Construction (APWGoC) – Group Chaired by an MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) for discussion between Local Government and the wider Construction Industry.
  • Actuate UK – Representation to local Government on all Actuate UK issues applicable to Northern Ireland.

A recent achievement has been becoming the first devolved nation to introduce Project Bank Accounts (PBAs) on all Public Sector Contracts over £2m. Our work also continues with local government on the abolishment of retentions within the construction sector.

Local ECA meetings are bimonthly and there is good attendance with lively debate on topical issues.

Regional meetings (REC) are held with ECA Members in the South of Ireland and occur three times a year.
