Managing ill health absence

Managing the allocation of work can be a challenging task at the best of times.  When there is the added complication of ill health absence, long term or intermittent, the ECA is here to help employers navigate the procedures that employers need to follow in these circumstances.

This guidance is designed to assist employers in following the correct procedures when dealing with an employee’s absence as the result of ill health whether for prolonged or persistent short-term periods.

For the purpose of this guidance, ‘ill health’ includes sickness, injury and any other medical grounds on which an employee is incapacitated from carrying out his or her normal duties.
