The ECA Northern Ireland Region has been managed by Alfie Watterson since May 2000.
Northern Ireland has a committed group of members of whom the majority are actively involved in Branch meetings held bi-monthly along, with other events held throughout the year. The highlight of the year being the Branch Dinner held annually during March.
The Regional Officers meet three times a year with their ECA counterparts in Dublin.
In November 2018 Officers from Northern Ireland attended the ECA Dublin Centenary Dinner held in the Crypt of Christchurch Cathedral.
The Irish Regional Chairman is currently Michael Dowds, Locksley Engineering; Michael also serves the Region as ECA Council Representative.
The current Branch Chairman is Mr Colin Cherry, Stothers M & E Vice-Chairman is Richard Megarity, Irwin M & E.
Michael Hilland is the current Regional Joint Industry Board Chairman and represents the Region at the Labour Relations Committee and the JIB National Board.
Following a Branch initiative in November 2017 the Region was successful in recruiting six major companies in Northern Ireland into membership. These companies are now playing a vital role in supporting Branch activity as well as lobbying Local Government.
At the 2017 ECA awards, William Ltd won the 'Contractor of the Year' award.
Members in Northern Ireland with the assistance of the SEC Group have been successful in lobbying Local Government on various issues, one of which was the introduction of Project Bank Accounts on Public Sector Contracts with a value in excess of £2 million.
Recently Local Government has agreed the introduction of protecting Cash Retentions within Project Bank Accounts.
With a larger membership representing over 70% of the local industry turnover, lobbying of Local Government is considerably strengthened.
