Prestigious job opportunities ahead for contractors in Westminster restoration

A new report from the Restoration and Renewal (R&R) Client Board detailing costed proposals for the restoration of the Palace of Westminster outlines a major pipeline of long-term opportunities for electrical contractors.

The programme is expected to create significant future procurement opportunities over the coming years and ECA (Electrical Contractors’ Association) Members may be able to tender for work packages as the project progresses. ECA will provide further updates as more information is released.

The report published by the R&R Client Board presents details of projected costs, timelines and implications of the three possible options which were agreed in 2024 for delivery of the restoration project. The options involve different levels of decant from the Palace of Westminster; full decant, continued presence and enhanced maintenance and improvement (EMI). While each option involves different levels of relocation from the Palace, all would create substantial demand across the construction sector.

The Palace of Westminster is home to the UK House of Commons and House of Lords and requires significant refurbishment work to address structural underlying issues throughout the historic building.

ECA Members are encouraged to monitor developments and watch for announcements on upcoming opportunities and guidance on how to participate.
