The Building Safety Regulator and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government have published new guidance setting out the Mandatory Technical Competence (MTCs) requirements for self-certification schemes.
The new framework helps scheme operators assess whether installers have the right skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours to carry out and certify work safely and competently.
The MTCs aim to create a more consistent approach to competence across the sector, while keeping pace with changes in regulation, standards, industry practice and technology.
The framework covers several areas of work, including electrical, air conditioning, plumbing and heating, insulation, roofing, fenestration, gas, liquid fuel, and solid fuel and biomass.
A useful read for anyone involved in competent person or self-certification schemes, particularly as expectations around competence continue to develop.
