ECA Members are being urged to stay up-to-date with new requirements being introduced to record and report income and expenses from 6 April 2026, as part of HMRC’s Making Tax Digital campaign.
From April 2026 sole traders with a turnover above £50,000, will need to use recognised software to record and send income and expenses quarterly.
These are not quarterly tax returns just simple summaries of how your business is doing. You won't pay four tax bills a year; the deadline for submitting a tax return and paying tax will still be 31 January.
Those with more than a £30,000 turnover will be required to comply from April 2027.
Check how this affects you by visiting the GOV.uk website, where there are a range of resources available to you to get you ready for your implementation date.
