Skills for the Future

Tackling the skills shortage and attracting new talent to the industry.

Our Members know the importance of a competent, well-trained workforce.

Many started their careers as apprentices and progressed to senior company roles or running their own businesses. They understand the mix of skills and experience needed by trainees.

As system designers and installers, our Members are in the vanguard of the shift to smart buildings and net zero. These complex challenges make it vital we attract and keep high calibre entrants.

Right people, wrong training

CPD / upskilling training is routinely made available to unqualified, incompetent installers.

What change is ECA calling for?
A regulatory and business environment which encourages investment in high quality training
All entry routes to align with a common, industry-endorsed standard
Minimum competence requirements to be a condition for enrolment on a CPD or upskilling course
Rigorous checks on training providers to maintain quality and consistency of training
It is possible to fly without motors, but not without knowledge and skill
